The SoCal alternative firing camshaft effectively changes the engines firing order which results in a much smoother operation. The factory firing order results in an extremely harsh blow to the to the crank at the intersection of the second main journal which is right where they have a tendency to break.
After closely examining the potential causes for common crankshaft failures, SoCal was able to develop a solution. This fix is established by moving the the firing events of cylinders 3, 1 and 2 away from each other which reduces the amount of stress preventing the catastrophic failures while extending the overall life of the crankshaft.
As perplexing as it may seem, the steps required to achieve this "alternative" firing order are actually quite simple. This is achieved by swapping a few pins in the wiring harness which allows the ECM to signal the appropriate injector to fire at the correct time.
